GENRE: Slam Poetry

There’s not a person in this world without bias.
Whether it’s what food you buy, what classes you take, what music you like, or what project you make.
There’s always going to be that choice, that puppy that you’ll buy instead of a cockroach.
It’s nothing to deny it’s human nature.

But for just a moment… picture yourself in that cockroach’s life.
Six legs, antennae, and the ability to jump high and crawl on any surface.
All of these features, they’re positives in your eyes and in those who’ve raised you.
Yet whenever someone sees you, they avert their gaze, exhale with a temper, maybe even walk away.
You wonder why they turn away, why they actively choose to leave when you’ve done nothing but sit there.
Things are different at home or with others just like you. But when you’re surrounded in what seems like a world of puppies, it makes you doubt your abilities as a roach.
Being able to jump 48 times your own size or climb anything seems nothing compared to the ability to be recognized that you’re a member of this world too.

So to those puppies out there, be glad that you have others to understand yourselves. Because the duality of individuals dividing and differing distracts the fact that race isn’t a lesson to coach. Still, for me and many others, we’ll always just be seen as another roach.
