Happy Retirement Mrs. Sackerson!

Today April 13, 2016 will be Mrs. Sackerson’s last day of teaching. She will be undergoing knee surgery and has chosen to retire. We are very thankful for Mrs. Sackerson and all of what she has done for us. She is a wonderful teacher and strives to provide us with her best. She will be greatly miss but we wish her the best of luck. Make sure to say thank you and bye if you see her today before she leaves.

What is your educational background?

I have a bachelor’s in chemistry, and I have a certification 6-12 for chemistry, physics, and physical science.I also have a master’s in curriculum and instruction.

What were you like in High School?

Nerd!! Very introverted.  In the nerd clubs, math club, debate, Future Teachers of America.

What is your favorite food?

Chocolate!

What is your favorite FHS memory so far?

A lot of very nice kids and a great staff, generic but very true.

What is something that people might not know about you?

I used to play guitar.

How do you spend your time outside of school?

I make cards and  scrapbook, I look to read and garden.

What is your best advice for high school students?

Push yourself to do the best you can.

Do you have any crazy/funny stories?

I have a lot of very wild dreams, crazy dreams that keep me entertained.

Do you have any other fun facts?  

I have two kids and two dogs and two houses, only one husband. I spend some time relaxing, reading and hanging out.

Why do you call your students “tuna”?

I don’t know, I just do!

What changes have you seen over the course of your career?

My impression of school is that we are a reflection of society. Our little schools mirror what is going around in the outside world.

What were your greatest concerns when you BEGAN teaching? Did those turn out to be justified concerns or just the typical nerves of a new teacher?

Teaching for me was a second career and I have only taught for 16 years. The biggest concern is you always want to be doing a really good job and you hope that that is what you’re doing. And you’re worried you’re not doing the best you can do.

Is there something about teaching that you never did figure out? Still wonder/worry about?

How to get every kid to want to learn, how to motivate them to want to learn. Education is very important and kids here should not take it for granted.

What did you enjoy about teaching?

I enjoyed the students, the kids, they have really been the highlight.

Do you still feel like you want to teach?

I enjoy teaching but I’m definitely ready for a break because i have been doing this for many years and I have put in many hours outside.

What made you be a teacher in the first place?

I enjoy the environment, I like to teach and I like kids.

Did you want to retire?

Yes, I can so I am.

I actually do, I made one years ago but i stopped twittering.

What would you do if you found out that a student has made a twitter account dedicated to you?

I don’t think anyone would make a fanpage for me, I don’t think that’s going to happen…
