The Franklin Boys Swim Team has had a swimmingly good season this year (literally and figuratively) going undefeated in dual meets as well as breaking many long-standing records. The team itself has changed significantly, as many of the Varsity seniors from last year have left, and a large amount of talented freshmen have joined. Aside from the members of the team, their overall mental strategy has changed significantly from last year as well. Coach Ross Lennertz said that, “This year we have put all of our energy into creating a team that can win at state, as opposed to last year where we just wanted to make it there.” Senior Luke Gavronski was also optimistic about the season’s future stating, “So far the season has been great, and we are only going upward from here.” The boys have been working to be their best by practicing three hours a day, fine tuning their strokes, and developing confidence in their performance.
As the season begins to come to a close, the 2015-16 season boasts the boys being undefeated in dual meets as well placing highly at open invitationals. Upward performance has been shown in nearly every athlete, and with state less than a month away, the boys have begun to taper. Coach said that this is the most pivotal part of the season, as the boys “need to trust in the process of taping and my coaching so that they believe that they can perform at their maximum potential.” To find out meet results and upcoming meets, check the Boy’s Swim and Dive website under the Athletics tab of the FHS homepage.
