Franklin Sabers VS. Milwaukee Pulaski Rams

With this being the first game of the playoffs, this made the game have a bit more meaning to it, because whichever team lost was done for the season. Before the contest began, a bad omen occurred when the traditional running through the banner could not be performed, because when it was raised it suddenly tore in half! But that didn’t stop the Sabers from bringing all their skills to the field.
The Rams got the ball first, and were soon on the Sabers 40 yard line thanks to a personal foul. Franklin’s defense held strong and received the ball. The Sabers were able to march down the field and score first on a passing touchdown to #20 RB Austin Meyer with 6:55 remaining in the quarter. On the kickoff to the Rams the Sabers special teams pinned them to their 2 yard line. After 3 plays the Rams punted the ball only to the 23 yard line. Two plays later the offense was celebrating another touchdown by #85 WR Cal Wrobel. Then the defense contributed (#29 DB Michael Cuske) with an interception runback for a third score. Before the quarter was over, #8 QB Sean McGuire handed the ball to #16 RB Chad Walton for a 2 yd rushing touchdown. Franklin 28 Milwaukee Pulaski 0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Sabers kept pouring it on when #8 QB Sean McGuire threw a 30yard pass to #20 RB Austin Meyer, followed by another rushing touchdown by #16 RB Chad Walton. Later in the quarter #8 QB Sean McGuire connected with Sophmore #43 TE Sam Ruetz. A number of players came over to pat him on his helmet and celebrate his score. With the game will in hand, 42-0, the Franklin coach brought in #11 QB Josh Haase to run the offence. #8 QB Sean McGuire had finished the day 12-15 197 yards 3TD.
The third quarter began with the Sabers receiving the ball. The student section recognizing the Sabers dominance and remained seated for the second half. #30 DB Austin Manning had an interception which resulted in a running touchdown by #7 RB Mitchell Smith. #11 QB Josh Haase kept the ball moving on offense with a couple of good scrambles and first downs. Sabers 49 Rams 0 end of the third quarter.
To start the fourth quarter, #40 LB Parker Plume picked up a fumble which turned into a 35 yard Saber touchdown with 9:12 remaining. But they did miss the extra point which was the only thing wrong with their game. Then #5 QB Josh Frank filled in as quarterback for the rest of the game. The final Saber score happened when #2 RB Caprie King ran the ball in for the final touchdown. The final score was Franklin Sabers 62 Milwaukee Pulaski Rams 0.

    Don’t forget to come the first round of the boys volleyball this Friday at 5 in the FHS gym, and do not forget about the football game this Friday versus Indian Trail at 7. They will both be great games.
